About Nibbleboard

Nibbleboard is a recipe platform that shows you what your meals actually cost and what's actually in them. Every recipe on our site includes real grocery store pricing and nutrition data computed from USDA FoodData Central — not estimates, not averages, not guesses.

Markets analyzed

We maintain a database of over 3,000 cooking ingredients, each with per-100g nutritional data sourced from the USDA FoodData Central database — the same source used by food manufacturers for nutrition labels.

Grocery prices are collected weekly from 15+ online grocery markets across the United States. We compute per-unit costs, then calculate recipe costs by summing the actual ingredient amounts used. This means our "cost per serving" figure reflects what you'd actually spend at the store — not a rough estimate.

How Recipe Nutrition Is Computed

Every recipe's nutrition label is computed server-side, not entered manually. Here's the process:

  1. 1Each ingredient's measurement (cups, tablespoons, pieces) is converted to grams using standardized USDA conversion factors.
  2. 2The per-100g nutritional values (calories, protein, carbs, fat, fiber, sugar, sodium) are scaled to the actual amount used.
  3. 3All ingredient contributions are summed and divided by servings to produce per-serving nutrition values.
  4. 4Dietary flags (vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy-free) are determined by logical AND — a recipe is only marked vegan if every ingredient is vegan.

Our Tools

We build free tools that help you cook smarter and spend less:

Editorial Standards

Our recipes are tested and reviewed before publication. Every recipe goes through quality validation that checks:

  • Ingredient amounts are within realistic ranges
  • Cooking times match the method and difficulty level
  • Nutrition values fall within expected ranges for the meal type
  • All ingredients exist in our database with verified nutrition data
  • Cost computations use current market prices
